Poker Play in the Philippines
Australian, David Saab, sealed the inaugural APT event, not with a kiss, but with a very fortuitous Ace in the flop to win the tournament and $280 000. He reached the final table as chip leader followed by Chris Roh and Italian hopeful, Ferrari, but soon had the vast majority of final tablers heading for the door. His heads-up encounter with South Korean, Chris Roh was closely followed by rowdy groups of Australians and South Koreans who were baying for their homeboys to win, but the legendary Tournament Director, Matt Savage, kept a close eye on proceedings.
The final hand saw a flop of A-7-4 which immediately had Roh bundling 90 000 down in chips but if he thought he could intimidate Saab, he was clearly mistaken! His opponent re-raised to 300 000 and Roh went all-in. Saab duly called and both players showed – Saab was holding A-8 and Roh K-4 and Saab had the upper hand with pocket Aces. The turn and river came out a 9 and 10 and Roh had to be satisfied with second place finish.
