The Casino Barriere de Deauville is one of the finest Casinos in France and it epitomises the chic elegance of a City renowned for it’s international film festival, the Deauville-La Touques Thoroughbred Racecourse, the enchanting harbour and of course the famous beaches. The Casino is part of the celebrated Barriere Group and apart from playing host to the elite European Poker Tour it also features Texas Holdem tournaments throughout the year – The Barriere Poker Tournaments. The casino is all about French charm and panache and apart from its stylish interior it offers a range of games including French and English roulette, blackjack, craps, stud poker and of course the all-time favourite, Texas Holdem. The Casino was allegedly the inspiration for the first James bond novel, Casino Royale, and author, Ian Fleming was often seem at the felt tables as a young man!
Getting there
- The simplest way to get to Deauville is by train from Paris St Lazare and there are currently three trains daily to the Normandy area of Deauville-Trouville – estimated travel time is in the region of 2 hours.
- There is a small, limited local airport, Aeroport de Deauville-St Gatien, situated 9km’s from the city centre but be warned, there is no public transport connecting the two, so taxis are the only option available – do not pay more than €20! Unfortunately connections to other major international cities are limited.
Getting Around
The City of Deauville is small enough to get around on foot but for those less inclined to walk, scooters, bicycles and even roller-skates can be hired from Cycle Lucas, 92 Ave de la Republique. From April – September a tourist train departs from the town hall and ferries tourists around the scenic Normandy town for €5.50 and for those who want to visit slightly further afield, there are buses and a small 5-minute ferry to the nearby village of Trouville.
