EPT Tournaments
The majority of the nine poker tournaments scheduled for the fourth season of the European Poker Tour follow exactly the same structure. The only exceptions to the rule are the Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure and the Grand Final held in Monte Carlo each year. Please look at the Structure of the European Poker Tour for the relevant details.
As the EPT has started to flex its muscles on the international poker calendar, so too has the number of tournaments steadily increased from season to season.
During the inaugural 2004/2005 season seven events were contested by some 1468 players and the buy-ins ranged from €1000 for the first event of the season, the Barcelona Open, to €10 000 for the Grand Final in Monaco.
In Season 2 the only casualty of the abridged schedule was the Vienna event, it was replaced by the Scandinavian open. Again seven poker events took place with over 2000 hopefuls vying it out on the tables. The French Open had the most entrants with 434 and the tournament buy-ins this time were all set at €400 with the Grand Final requesting €10 000 for a seat.
Season 3 saw the number of tournaments increasing to eight and the German and Polish Opens were pencilled in while the French Open fell by the wayside. Participant numbers again surged and a record breaking 3471 players went head to head for the accolades. Over 700 of the top guns made it to the final tables in Monte Carlo, and the cheapest buy-in was €4 000 and that reserved a seat at the Warsaw Open. All other buy-ins were €5000, with the Grand Final fixed at €10 000.
Season Four saw a step away from the prevailing tradition of 'European Only' events and venues - the ultimate challenge was introduced in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, held on the beautiful islands of The Bahamas. The tentacles of the EPT went further into Eastern Europe with the introduction of the inaugural Prague tournament held in December 2007 and the beautiful city of San Remo in Italy is new addition too, bringing the total tally of tournaments to eleven. Participant figures rose again to over 4300 but the real star of the show was the inaugural Caribbean Adventure – over 1130 people jockeyed for a position at the tables of the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas.
