Rookie takes second place at Irish Winter Festival
25 year old Englishman, Chris Woods, caused a stir last week by finishing second in the Irish Winter Festival in Dublin just two months after playing poker for the first time.
Woods enrolled for poker lessons with online poker school Poker Professor in August. It was while he was obtaining tuition that he won a $50 payment into an online account playing a Poker professor quiz.
Woods invested half of this amount in a Irish Winter Festival satellite, which he subsequently won to progress to a super-satellite. The Hartlepool man's winning ways continued as he won the super-satellite earning himself a $4,500 Irish Winter Festival package.
Dublin beckoned for Woods, who travelled to the Irish capital and performed impressively at his first live tournament, walking away with over 100,000 Euros in prize money courtesy of his second place finish.
"I avoided tangling with the other big stacks unless I felt I was drawing to the nuts or had the nuts," Woods said after the tournament. "I also used my big stack well against the smaller stacks when in position, forcing the pressure on them for the rest of the tournament."
