William Frys wins EPT Hungarian Poker Open

William Frys, a British man for Nottingham, has become the latest European Poker Tour star after winning the first ever Hungarian Poker Open.

The 28 year old professional defeated a field of 531 players to take down the Hungarian Poker Open title, winning $759,456 in the process. Frys’ heads-up battle was particularly impressive as he defeated Ciprian Hrisca of Romania in under 30 minutes, setting a new European Poker Tour record.

“I'm going to pay my mortgage, help out my family and friends, and look into some good charities to help stop third-world hunger," Fry responded when asked how he planned to use his prize money. "I'm going to try to do my bit to help and hopefully others will get involved."

The first Hungarian Poker Open was a major success, with all available places sold out and an international field turning out to participate in the event.

"The EPT has once again proved that we can move into emerging markets like Hungary and provide a sell-out tournament," said EPT founder John Duthie. "The support from the local players has been overwhelming and players have been happy to travel from all over the world to attend the inaugural event in Budapest.”
