Erik Seidel Wins Maiden WPT Title

One of the more accomplished poker players on the planet, the incomparable Erik Seidel, added an elusive maiden WPT title to his eight WSOP bracelets at a final table that included fellow professional, Ted Forrest. Forrest is renowned as a big roller who has won and lost over a million dollars in a single session of poker and craps and one of his more memorable moments was when he took $1.5 million off three-time WSOP bracelet winner and holder of two WPT titles, Barry ‘the Bear’ Greenstein, in a game of Chinese poker that lasted over a month! Seidel must have been relieved when Forrest crashed out in sixth place!

It was not all plain sailing for Seidel, however and he had to dig deep to outlast Robert Richardson in a heads-up encounter that lasted eleven hours. The final hand saw Seidel raising $260 000 on the button and Richardson calling. The flop read A-K-9, Richardson checked and Seidel bet $300 000. It took a while for Richardson to call and the turn was an 8. Richardson went all in, Seidel called holding an A-J to Richardson’s 9-7 and when the river came down K, Seidel had claimed his title and a pretty formidable pay package!

Richardson, from the United Kingdom, will be delighted with his performance. The rookie has only managed one other cash to date and that was in 2007 when he came 4th in the £300 No Limit Holdem event at the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour in Newcastle!
