The European Poker Tour (EPT), an Overview
Every year the most proficient professional poker players travel throughout Europe to contest one of the most elite events on the annual poker calendar, the European Poker Tour. The popularity of this event has grown season by season, and it has surpassed all expectations as far as the number of entrants it attracts each year.
Right up until Season Four – the 2007/2008 season- it was considered the poorer relation of the WPT (World Poker Tour) as the prize pool up for grabs was nowhere near its American based counterpart. All that changed, however, when the organisers decided to augment the pot with a lot more currency. As we all know, money talks, and it wasn’t long before the poker fraternity elevated the EPT to the same status as the WTP and WSOP.
The event is sponsored by PokerStars, the largest online poker room in the world. It claims to qualify more players for the European Poker Tour, the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker Satellites than any other internet poker site.
Each EPT event takes place in different centres throughout Europe and there is even a tournament held in the Bahamas – the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. All events are televised by Sunset & Vine and broadcast to thousands, possibly millions, of homes throughout the continent.
Sunset & Vine have a stellar record as far as supplying sports and gaming programming to broadcasters throughout the UK and Europe, and have won 5 BAFTA’s and 9 Royal TV Society Awards. Some of their other poker offerings include Showbiz Poker, Interpoker.com University Clash, the UK Poker Tour and the World Cup of Poker, so the EPT is in really fine company, and the quality of the broadcasts speak volumes.
