Turks & Caicos Poker Classic
Season Six – 26 – 30 September 2007
$1 004 175
The Player’s Club is situated on one of the islands of the Turks and Caicos, Providenciales, and is arguably the only casino on the group of British territories which has the sophistication to host an event on the magnitude of a WPT Tournament. The casino is relatively modest by Nevada and New Jersey standards, but it has all the amenities needed to host the poker classic. The Club is virtually brand new, having only opened its doors to the gambling public in 2006.
Providenciales is part of the Caribbean and is easily accessed by most US cities. Major American carriers include American Airlines, Spirit Airlines, US Air and Delta. British Airways offers regular flights from London Heathrow.

It was the perfect ending to the first ever WPT Turks and Caicos Poker Classic for the unequivocal father of West Indies poker, Rhynie Campbell. He joined the Final Table with a pretty short stack, featuring second to last on the chip leader board, but somehow managed to out finesse his cohorts with some really self confident play.
He pulled off double up after double up and after a nine hour Final Table fracas he was able to pull ahead and finally dominate runner-up Erik Cajelais to claim over $400 000 in filthy lucre and the inaugural West Indies based title.
“The final table – I mean, I’m still wondering exactly what happened, because you know, I was very terrified of Alan [Sass], because he’s such a solid player, and then all of a sudden he started mixing it up with me. I waited for him because I saw him keep mixing it up with Erik for a while, and I knew sooner or later one of them was going to change their focus from each other to me. So I sat back and I waited my turn and just waited to make my moves,” he said after his historic victory.
