World Series of Poker 2008 Satellite Tournaments

The WSOP is one of many international poker tournaments which offer contestants the opportunity of gaining entry to the elite, and oft expensive, event by way of online and land-based satellite tournaments.

This effectively means that everybody, pros and rank amateurs alike, have a chance of claiming the crown of the main event and an equitable share of some of the richest prize pools in international sport! This is one of the reasons why poker, Texas Holdem in particular, has become one of the most sought after pastimes in the history of man!

Benefits of Satellites

Many accomplished amateur players would not always find it easy to fund buy-ins as rich as $10 000 and would consequently never really be able to test their prowess on the pro circuit, but now days the vast majority of online poker rooms offer satellites to all the big tour events including the Caribbean Poker Classic, the Aussie Millions the World Poker Tour and the European Poker Tour.

One of the most successful sports bookmakers in the UK, William Hill is, for instance, running daily satellites where Caribbean Poker Classic packages are up for grabs, and these packages not only include the buy-in to the main event, but accommodation and travel expenses too!

Anybody who knows anything about poker will have heard about Chris Moneymaker, the 2003 WSOP main event champion – he gained entry to the main event by way of an online satellite competition where the buy-in was a measly $39 and ended up a cool $2.5 million in the black!
