Ralph Porter must be ecstatic with his first WSOP win – he has already reached a final table at the WSOP in 2006 and currently boasts 11 WSOP cashes, but until now he has been unable to tap into the real big money!

There were some pretty important early casualties in this event including the indefatigable Hoyt Corkins (14th), Australian Jeffrey ‘Iceman’ Lisandro, who got the better of Howard Lederer in the WSOP Limit Heads Up tournament in 2004, the legendary Barbara Enright, three time bracelet winner and the only woman to have reached the final table of the main event, and veteran Berry Johnston, who has claimed five WSOP bracelets to date!

Phillip Tom claimed his first WSOP bracelet in the four years he has been playing competitive poker and his accomplishment must be that much more rewarding for the American as he outplayed some formidable opponents including three-time WSOP bracelet winner, John Juanda. The celebrated Erik Seidel, who finished 24th, was one of the pros knocked out in the earlier rounds
