WSOP All-Time Bracelet Winners, Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth can be considered the guru of Texas Holdem – each and every one of his record-breaking eleven bracelets has been won at Holdem events but that is not his only claim to fame, he has appeared regularly on television as both commentator and contestant and has written a number of articles and instructional videos on his favoured pastime.

Hellmuth is clearly one of the leading actors in the ongoing high drama of professional poker but he is not universally admired, especially by his poker contemporaries – he often sparks controversy with his arrogant and unfounded remarks regarding his opponent’s skill levels, and he obviously has an extremely high regard for himself and his poker playing abilities.

What is interesting to note is although he is the current leading bracelet winner, he has only claimed the title in one form of poker – Texas Holdem, in all its various guises. Poker purists may well view him as an expert of Holdem but will not necessarily elevate him to the status of the world’s best poker player!

Hellmuth’s WSOP Records

Hellmuth may not be the most popular guy on the international poker circuit but he has emblazoned his name in lights by setting and breaking several World Series of Poker records and these include:

  • The youngest WSOP bracelet winner in 1989 at 24 years old – this record has since been broken by Norwegian, Annette Obrestad who claimed the Main Event at the World Series of Poker Europe in 2007, one day before her nineteenth birthday!
  • The most WSOP cashes with 63
  • The most WSOP final table appearances with 39, a record he shares with the legendary TJ Cloutier.
