WSOP Poker Legends, Barbara Enright

Barbara Enright is a legend in her own time, she has probably set more ‘firsts’ than any other poker player on the circuit, male or female, and her feisty tenacity has made her a worthy opponent of the very best in the game.

She is renowned as a fearless tournament player and her favoured poker variant is Limit Holdem but what really separates her from the rest of the posse of female poker players is the fact that she is the only woman who has ever made it to the final table of the WSOP Main Event, and that was way back in 1995. It’s remarkable to think that with the limitless fields contesting the main event each year, no other woman has ever bettered her 5th final table finish!

Enright’s Opening Salvos

  • She was the first woman to win two, then three WSOP bracelets
  • She became the first woman to win a major open event at the WSOP – the Pot Limit Holdem in 1996
  • She has won the Ladies Championship twice
  • At the 2000 edition of the Legends of Poker she was honoured as the All Around Best Player for her 8 cashes and 6 final tables!
  • In 2007 she became the first woman to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame together with the celebrated Phil Hellmuth, leading WSOP bracelet winner
  • She was the highest female finisher (11th) in the Tournament of Champions contested at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Vegas.
  • In 2008 she was inducted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame and becomes the only poker player in history to be in all three Poker Halls of Fame – the Senior Poker Hall of Fame, the WSOP Hall of Fame and the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.

Enright continues to play poker regularly and in 2008 she has already won two tournaments – LIPS Tour Event Ladies No Limit Holdem Women in Poker Hall of Fame Deepstack and Caesars Las Vegas Poker Tournament Ladies No Limit Holdem, a WSOP circuit event. She has admitted however that she currently prefers to stay at home and play online!
